NICK HARPER - TREASURE ISLAND:
SLEEVE NOTES The time and space I happen to frequent is full of treasures but,
I am, currently, Nick Harper REVIEWS Guitarist February 2006 Roy's boy gets Country Life out of his system Clever guy Nick one moment the cheeky chappie we know and love the next a grouchy rural Dylan for the iPod generation. And so in characteristically schizophrenic fashion we get a spoof Bush rant before the choking bile of his anti Iraq war song 'Knuckledraggers', a frantic acoustic guitar meltdown on 'Real Life' and with 'Bloom' a hauntingly beautiful, but disturbing opus that sounds almost Pink Floydian in concept. Oh, and just for good measure there's the Stanley Unwin-like monologue of 'A Wiltshire Tale'. It's all very wacky, but all very wonderfully English; kind of like John Betjeman with a guitar. Standout tracks: Bloom, Real Life, Sleeper Cell JULIAN PIPER
