Caterpillar On A Coca Leaf
In another Total Guitar exclusive Guest Column, acoustic master Nick Harper has recorded a brand new solo piece for you. And what a corker it is!
The piece begins in 'double drop D' tuning, with both first and sixth strings detuned by a tone. This alters silently to open G tuning by dropping the fifth string by a tone in bar 8, during the pause before the 'tapped' note. In bar 9, the second string is also detuned by a tone. During bar 11, the fifth string is then returned back up to A. Phew! Here, the classical style intro ends and Nick launches into a strumming frenzy which developes melodies played in octaves over the 'droning' open strings. Some of the pulloff sequences will require a bit of patience to perform (especially the double and triple stops!), but the most important factor is to play with conviction - Nick certainly does!
